What is business interruption (BI) insurance?
Business interruption insurance replaces lost income when your business cannot operate after a covered event (e.g. fire, flood, equipment failure). It typically covers lost revenue and ongoing expenses for a defined period.
How long can my business survive without income?
The survival calculator uses your monthly fixed costs and cash reserves to estimate runway (how many months you can cover expenses with no revenue). That helps you plan reserves and how much BI limit you may need.
What triggers BI coverage?
BI pays when you have a covered physical loss (e.g. fire, water damage, sometimes equipment breakdown) that causes you to suspend or reduce operations. The policy will specify what is covered and the waiting period.
Does BI cover pandemic or voluntary shutdown?
Standard BI usually does not cover pandemics or voluntary shutdowns unless you have a specific endorsement. Coverage is tied to physical damage or defined perils in the policy. Ask your broker what is included.
How much BI limit do I need?
